We took a quick day trip to Cooper Lake State Park and had some time to explore The Coyote Run Trail. This Texas State Park is only about 2 hours from Dallas, making it a great day or weekend destination. It offers many amenities that we did not explore on this trip such as camping, swimming, and kayak rentals. We had lunch on one of the many picnic areas and looked out over the enormous lake that is part of the park. The Coyote Run Trail is the only hiking trail in the park so not a hikers paradise, but it does offer a beautiful get away for just a quick drive from the Dallas area.
Below is the photo album of the fall colors that we experienced while exploring The Coyote Run Trail. Click on any of the photos to open a slide show that will allow better viewing of our trip. The trail is an out and back trail that is just over 4 1/2 miles long round trip. At the turn around point there is an outhouse, but there are no water offerings on the trail. Make sure to to take plenty of water and know your limitations. Every step you take in you have to take out. Also, pack a little snack so you can take your time and enjoy the scenery. See the Texas Parks and Wildlife website for more information on Cooper Lake State Park.
